About Red River
Tonkinese
In 1981 we purchased our first cat, prior to that, every kitten/cat
that we adopted came from a barn or the street. She was an amazing
Sable Burmese. We wanted to breed her, but our breeder strongly
discouraged us. I was in college, and he said that we could not handle
the responsibilities. Besides, he told us, "I sold you a pet quality Burm,
she should not be bred." Well, time passed and we still wanted to
breed, and our relationship with the breeder improved, but we still
had a "pet". Soon afterwards there was an article in Cats magazine.
It spoke of moderate type, hybrid vigor, aqua eyes and mink coats. In
short, it was an article on Tonkinese. I quickly called our breeder and
he gave us permission to breed F1 tonks. I was still in college, so it
was May Day of my Junior year at Bryn Mawr College, while the
Sophomores were serving champagne and strawberries to the Seniors
that Clea, our Burmese delivered seven beautiful natural mink Tonks.
We followed with one F2 litter and retired from breeding.
The Beginning
In 2004, we decided to have kittens again. For our son's 10th
birthday we presented him with a beautiful SHOW QUALITY
Platinum Mink Tonkinese. She bred for the first time in  2005 and
delivered three kittens on Mischief Night. We intend to have about
one litter per year. We  focus on careful breeding, health, and adding
pleasure to families who admire the beauty and playful personality of
Tonkinese. In August of 2007 we relocated to Southwest Florida
from Bucks County Pennsylvania. We hope to have our fourth litter  in
Florida ready for new homes in June.
